Biography
Cyril Power was one of the pioneers and leading exponents of the linocut in England. In 1922 Cyril Power had moved to London, together with the young Sybil Andrews, to attend Heatherley’s School of Art where Iain Macnab was then co-principal. In 1925 both Cyril Power and Sybil Andrews were appointed to the staff at Iain Macnab’s newly formed Grosvenor School of Modern Art and it was here, under the inspired guidance of Claude Flight, that they explored and developed the dramatic use of colour printing with linocuts.
The highly innovative style which Cyril Power was to develop exerted a tremendous influence upon the artists around him and it was Cyril Power’s work which attracted most attention when reviewed by the critics in the early 1930’s.
