Trained under Frank Short, the Honourable Walter J. James’s plates show a broad freedom of handling which is distinctly his own. The majority of his works depict landscapes in Northumberland or in Italy. An intimate observer of nature, Walter James was particularly fascinated by the structure and form of trees – always prominent in his etched works.
