The Fall of Rosamond 1783 Stipple engraving with etching by William Blake after T. Stothard, printed in two colours and coloured by hand. Very good impression with unfaded original colouring. In original, unrestored condition and in decorative circular frame (c.1920). Together with a companion piece in matching frame.
Very rare first state impression printed in two colours, pink (for flesh tones) and brown. Only four other impressions in the first state of this plate are known (only two of which are recorded in Essick’s work of 1980). Coloured by hand with blue green watercolour throughout the sky and foliage areas.
The Fall of Rosamond was the first separate plate which William Blake engraved after a design by his friend Thomas Stothard. SOLD |

Mrs. Q 1820 Stipple engraving, with etching and mezzotint – printed in colours and coloured by hand. Unique impression printed in black ink and colours, and finished by hand - unrecorded by Essick. Essick has not traced any other impression in which the principal image is printed in black ink in this manner. This superb example is one of only three known impressions to have been shaded with hand-painted brown wash. SOLD |

Chaucers Canterbury Pilgrims 1810 Original etching and line engraving. Magnificent lifetime proof impression in Essick’s 3rd state of the plate (Essick records only one known impression in his 1st state of the plate and two examples in his 2nd state). Before the right hand of the taller boy was added on the right shoulder of the small child closest to the lower left corner of the image. Prior to much burnishing of lighter areas and darkening of shadows across the entire plate and before much alteration to the shafts of radiance above the horizon.
In this state the plate shows its original imprint, giving Blake’s publication address at his brother’s house, “No.28 Corner of Broad Street, Golden Square” SOLD |
