Alec Buckels was a painter, wood engraver, etcher, illustrator and writer of childrens’ books. The famous critic of the day, Malcolm C. Salaman, wrote in The Studio of his wood engravings: “he uses his graver with exquisite sensitiveness to build up an elaborate pictorial statement that shall seem very simple.” Buckles was elected an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1924.
