Original Percival Gaskell mezzotint.

Superb signed proof impression with considerable tonal inking and rich mezzotint burr, from the only published edition.

The dramatic landscape mezzotints of Percival Gaskell rival the greatest works in this medium by any British printmaker. These works display a spacious vision through which the artist transfigures a landscape using the poetry and romance of light and shadow. This outstanding engraving demonstrates how perfectly the mezzotint medium, with its infinite tonal range, was suited to Gaskell’s subjects. Indeed, his magnificent interpretation of the turbulent sky in this scene is without parallel amongst his contemporaries.

(Gaskell gave this same title to another mezzotint view of Loch Linnhe as well as to this particular engraving).

On pale cream China paper applied to original warm white wove backing sheet, with margins. Very fine condition.
