The unusual viewpoint of this etching, with its partially occluded view, is indicative of Hughes’ individuality. A lesser artist would have depicted a typical view of the farm which stands besides this delicate tree. Instead, Hughes has chosen to make the little tree the subject of her work, the farm and the landscape beyond being relegated to a subsidiary, almost incidental role.
On cream laid paper, watermarked Arches (France) , with full margins and deckle edge. Very fine original condition. |
