Very fine presentation proof impression given by the artist to the Earl of Pembroke. A very fine example of David Charles Read’s characteristic landscape studies, sketched by the artist directly on to the plate.
This etching is the archetypal D.C. Read landscape, showing a quiet, naturalistic view on the road between Salisbury and Corfe Castle. Corfe Castle is situated in a commanding position on the headland of the Isle of Pubeck, some thirty miles to the south of D.C.Read’s home town of Salisbury.
On cream wove paper, with narrow margins. Tipped at corners to original backing sheet, as prepared by the artist himself. Very good original condition. |
