Original Francis Seymour Haden etching with drypoint.

Outstandingly strong impression in Schneiderman’s 5th state (of eight), before the plate was cut down.

This splendid night scene is one of Francis Seymour Haden’s finest depictions of Battersea Bridge and its immediate surroundings. By the time of this work, Francis Seymour Haden had broken off contact with Whistler in the aftermath of a famous argument – this was to be Haden’s last etched view of Battersea Bridge.

On firm cream wove paper with full margins and deckle edge. Slight evidence of previous mounting at extreme edges of sheet verso, otherwise very good condition. Image surface, excellent.
