Very fine signed proof impression of this delicate etching. One of only 10 impressions printed in the completed state of the plate (six impressions only had been printed in the preceding state).

A particularly fine example of Alphonse Legros’ etching technique, Le Départ pour la Pêche, dans les Brumes (Setting off fishing in the mists) captures the atmosphere of the early morning in the French countryside to perfection. This imagery of a shallow-bottomed boat and a placid waterway fringed by stylised poplar trees recurs throughout Alphonse Legros’ etched work. This is undoubtedly one of the most pleasing of Alphonse Legros’ enchanting rural scenes.

On warm white laid paper with full margins and deckle edge. One short repaired tear at upper edge of sheet, just entering plate area, otherwise very good condition.
