This finely handled landscape view shows the considerable influence which the work of Francis Seymour Haden had upon the early etchings of Oliver Hall. The skilful needling of Oliver Hall’s work has been greatly enhanced by his careful biting of the plate to create the effects of recession and widely varied shadows. A beautifully balanced early composition from this master of the etched line.
On pale cream laid paper with uneven margins and deckle edge. Evidence of previous mounting at extreme edge of sheet and minor surface dirt verso, otherwise very fine condition. |
