Excellent, strong impression with clear etched line. From the only edition of 75 signed and numbered proofs.

C.F.Tunnicliffe’s most powerful farmyard subject. This magnificent etching commands a grim fascination as the poor beast is dragged squealing and grunting to its death. In the background a labourer places a bucket by the killing table to catch the blood. The spectator at the gate adds to this horrific scene giving it the feel of a public execution.

Charles Frederick Tunnicliffe was born and brought up on his parent’s farm near Macclesfield, in Cheshire and his knowledge of farming life is never more apparent than in this gruesome masterpiece of etching.

On cream laid paper, with full margins and deckle edge. Minor time tone at extreme edges of sheet. Foxed verso (not apparent on front surface of sheet), otherwise very good original condition.
