Very good signed proof impression with the inks printed strong and fresh. Printed in shades of red, pink, brown, white, grey and black inks. A signed proof from the only edition – the blocks for this woodcut are known to have been destroyed immediately after this edition had been printed.

Striking in its simplicity, yet precise in its handling, this splendid image of two contrasting rabbits stands out amongst Urushibara’s multiple colour woodcut prints. Printed from numerous blocks, each block printing a separate colour, in this case even white being printed from a separate block. The blocks are printed in a superimposed manner, the subtle blending of inks which they carry combining to produce the full range of shades desired.

On simile Japan paper with margins, as issued. Residual adhesive towards top of sheet verso, otherwise generally very good original condition.
