Original Robin Tanner etching.

Excellent impression with strong, crisp etched line. From the only edition of 150 signed proofs, printed by Robin Tanner himself and published by the Print Collectors’ Club in 1973.

Robin Tanner was the last of the generation of English etchers to continue the traditions of Samuel Palmer, Graham Sutherland and F.L.M. Griggs. Tanner celebrated the beauty of the English countryside and its rustic settings in an idyllic pastoral manner unique in his time. His is the supremely crafted plate, developed through elaborate care and attention, and worked with a dense web of etched lines through which the light of the paper is allowed to sparkle. The density of this etched web is used to control the varying tones and create the final image.

This beautiful study of White Violets is an outstanding example of Robin Tanner’s meticulous craftsmanship. It represents the work of perhaps the last British etcher to continue in the true spirit of the tradition which Samuel Palmer established over a century ago.

On pale cream wove paper with full margins and deckle edge. Excellent original condition.
