Original Clifford Addams etching and drypoint.
Working proof impression from the artist’s own personal collection.
This etching shows Trafalgar Square on 24th December 1919, hoardings around the base of Nelson's Column can be seen proclaiming the Victory Loan scheme. In the foreground two bi-planes attract the crowds. The Victory Loan was a bond issued to help pay for the costs of World War I. (Hausberg's cataloguing of this etching is inaccurate - she dates it incorrectly to c.1917 and gives a title of War Loan Scene, Charing Cross; Charing Cross is nearby but the scene shows Trafalgar Square).
On cream wove paper, with full margins. Horizontal printing crease, otherwise very good original condition. |
