This splendid period piece is one of the largest and most elaborate of Frederick Austin’s original printed works. The deeply religious sentiment and cool statuesque nature of the figures found in this plate are characteristic of F.G. Austin’s etchings and engravings. The relatively sparse composition, arranged in the manner of a traditional frieze, reflects aspects of the early Renaissance art which so interested Frederick Austin and which drew him to Rome the following year.

On cream laid paper with full margins. This particular proof was pinned by the artist to his studio wall and the pin holes are still clearly visible at the outer edges of the sheet. Some minor disclouration, otherwise generally good original condition for a working proof of this nature.
