Original Winifred Austen etching.
Excellent signed artist’s proof impression from the first published edition. This wonderful etched study of a fox in its natural habitat is one of the works which established Winifred Austen’s reputation amongst the foremost etchers of wildlife in England during the first two decades of the twentieth century.
The original plate for this etching still exists and unsigned modern re-strikes can be found, often with rather garish added colouring. The modern re-strikes do not compare in quality with the artist’s own signed original proofs of the sort offered here.
On cream laid paper with wide margins. Foxed, mostly in margins and verso, otherwise very good original condition. |
