Original H.A. Freeth etching.

Very fine signed proof impression.

During his time in Italy as Rome Scholar for Engraving, Hubert Freeth made many fine portrait studies of the Italian peasant community. Freeth was fortunate that his lifelong friend, Raymond Cowern should have been awarded the Rome Scholarship for Engraving the year after him, in 1937, allowing the two friends to work side by side while in Italy. However, apart from a relatively few exceptions, Freeth remained largely a figurative artist, whilst Cowern was concerned solely with landscape.

On cream wove paper with full margins. Very fine original condition.
