Norman Janes’s early work had been much occupied with portraiture but by the later 1920’s landscape had become his predominant subject matter. Navy House, Tobruk shows the remains of the Italian naval headquarters at Tobruk, in Libya, after the siege of 1941 – one of the key events in the ‘Desert War’ fought along the coastal areas of North Africa during the Second World War.
On cream simile Japan paper, with full margins and deckle edge. Very fine original condition. Image surface excellent. |
