Beautiful signed proof impression with bright contrast and outstanding tonal range – printed by the artist himself. Provenance: directly from the artist’s estate.

The Oracle was a shrine in classical mythology to which worshippers would go to seek the answers to their questions from the Gods. The answers given by the Oracle were notoriously difficult to interpret and although always accurate, often led to disaster if construed incorrectly. The graceful nude in this image has approached the Oracle in search of her answer.

Nathaniel Sparks has used a combination of aquatint and fine engraving to achieve the modelling of the woman’s body, to superb effect.

On pale cream wove paper with full margins. Excellent original condition.
