Original Marius Bauer etching.
Excellent impression from the only edition of 100 signed proofs.
The Impressionistic nature of this work conveys the rapid dexterity with which Marius Bauer recorded his first observations of everyday life throughout the orient. Yet, the majority of his vivacious early etchings were in fact distilled from his numerous sketches upon his return to Holland. Few impressions were printed initially, the remainder of the edition of 100 only being completed a few years later, once Marius Bauer’s fame had become established.
This particular proof impression is from the collection of the etcher F.L. Griggs, whose initials "F.L.G." are inscribed in pencil at the lower left of the sheet.
On cream laid Van Gelder paper with full margins and deckle edge. Very good original condition.
