Original D.Y. Cameron etching with drypoint.

An especially beautiful signed proof impression of this charming work, between Rinderís second and third states of the plate. In this state the artist was enriching the entire etched work with considerable drypoint. This is a particularly satisfying state of the plate, especially when seen in a fine proof impression such as this.

For the three preceding years, Sir David Young Cameronís work had concentrated upon architectural views in France. Etched in 1905, The Avenue represents a return to his native Scotland, showing a view at Gargunnock, in the countryside between Glasgow and Edinburgh. At this time D.Y. Cameron was beginning to use an increasing amount of drypoint in his etched works and as the years progressed drypoint was to become his favoured technique.

Printed in very dark brown ink on simile Japan paper, with narrow margins as prepared by the artist. Excellent condition.
