One of the group of plates loosely referred to as E.S.Lumsden’s ‘Third Indian and Ladak set’, Shiva’s Bull shows a scene on the banks of the River Ganges, at Benares. This image was derived from the huge mass of material which E.S.Lumsden had drawn during his two visits to India between 1912 and 1914, and during the further four years spent in the Indian army between 1915 and 1919. This carefully observed view is typical of the scenes upon the river front which the artist considered to display the essential spirit of Benares.

On simile Japan paper with full margins and deckle edge. Generally very good original condition.
