Very good signed proof impression with exceptionally rich drypoint burr. A proof prior to the edition of 175 impressions.

The West London based drypoint engraver and colour printmaker, Edgar L. Pattison, specialised in middle eastern themes and images of the orient. A regular exhibitor at the Royal Academy of Arts between 1906 in 1935, Edgar Pattison's printed works were issued in editions of 175 impressions by the well-known London dealers Lefèvre. The Dance, with its elaborate hanging lanterns and tasselled panoplies, typifies the decorative nature of his exotic images of fanciful eastern palaces and recalls the popular theme of Salome. This early proof impression is a particularly rich example from the freshly drypointed plate, prior to the addition of colour.

On cream laid paper with full margins, as issued. Generally very good original condition.
