Very fine impression with crisp etched line, from the only published edition, as issued in 1857 by the Etching Club.
Frederick Tayler is famous as a painter and etcher of sporting subjects. His work was much admired by Queen Victoria who purchased several of his pictures, which are now in the Royal collection. He was a regular contributor to the Etching Club, producing numerous etchings which are handled with a lively rapidity perfectly suited to their subject matter.
Pheasant Shooting is the finest of Frederick Tayler’s earlier etchings. Somewhat similar in vein to the work of Landseer, this image concentrates on the gundogs and the dead game which have been left in the care of a young boy, while the sportsman is seen shooting a pheasant in the far distance of the composition.
On fine India paper, applied to original warm white wove backing sheet, with full margins, as issued. Generally very good condition. Image surface, excellent. |
