Particularly fine signed proof impression with beautiful clarity of line, from the only edition of 75 signed proofs.
This view of a farm at Eemdijk, near Amsterdam, is one of a number of wood engravings which George Mackley made of Holland. Here, it is the interplay of light on the varied angles of the barn roofs and nearby posts, set against a darkened background, which has inspired this skilled engraver’s hand.
On smooth cream simile Japan paper, with full margins and deckle edge. Mild time tone within mat window area, otherwise excellent original condition.
Provenance: The retrospective show on Geroge Mackey’s wood engravings staged by Blond Fine Art in London in 1995. |
