Excellent signed proof impression with outstanding tonal range.

Created after a period of six years during which the artist produced few new prints and no original aquatints, The New Moon is one of Frank Short’s two largest aquatint plates. It seems somewhat surprising that Frank Short should have returned to the process of aquatint with his most audacious and elaborate work in the medium to date; however, the result was to be one of his finest prints.

This tranquil scene shows two fishermen on the Bure at Stokesby Ferry, near Acle, in Norfolk.

On cream wove paper, watermarked O.W.P & A.C.L, with full margins. Very good condition.
