As one of the two earliest known linocuts by Cyril Power, At Lavenham represents the artist’s initial experiments in the medium for which he became famous. Even in this early work, the clouds seem agitated – anticipating the dramatic sense of movement which Cyril Power was to develop in his mature linocuts and which was to become the hallmark of his outstanding works in this medium.

At Lavenham depicts the mediaeval town of Lavenham in Suffolk which Cyril Power visited regularly on sketching trips.

On fine oriental laid tissue, with uneven margins. One totally unobtrustive expertly repaired tear, otherwise very fine original condition.
