Original Francis Dodd drypoint.

Rich presentation proof, inscribed in pencil by the artist “To Gladys from Mae & Francis with homage & affection Xmas 1947”. A total of about 30 impressions of this drypoint were printed in all three states.

Exceptionally fine impression in the third state, with fresh drypoint burr. This lively drypoint portrait of a local market character, conveys the considerable feeling which Francis Dodd felt for the Cockney types who inspired so many of his portrait drawings.

An impression of this drypoint was reproduced, full page, in Randolph Schwabe's leading article on Francis Dodd, published in Print Collector's Quarterly, October 1926, p.259.

On warm white Japan-style paper with full margins. Some minor discolouration in outer margins and slight creasing to sheet, otherwise very good condition. Pencil framing notes verso.
