Original Felix Bracquemond etching.

Magnificent impression, printed on vellum and signed in pencil by the artist. A truly superb example of the completed image, before all letters.

A brilliant impression of this truly outstanding large-scale etching. Mouettes (Seagulls) is the artist’s magnum opus of birds in flight, transforming the beauty of a circling flight of gulls above rolling waves into a graceful swirl of lines to produce a harmonious pattern of exceptional beauty.

This plate was singled out particularly in the leading article on Felix Bracquemond in The Print-Collector’s Quarterly as showing the “mingling of Japanese and other influences” and is in striking contrast to his earlier more heavily etched works. Here, the artist’s technical virtuosity is demonstrated to the full, displaying a beautiful freedom of line with the assured handling of a true master of etching.

On smooth cream vellum, with full margins. Very fine condition.
