Excellent proof impression with strong, unfaded colours. One of the artist’s own two exhibition proofs, mounted on its original display card, as prepared by the artist himself.

Guy Malet’s inspired use of two colour linocuts, one printing with orange ink and the other with blue ink, has produced a brilliantly conceived design of remarkable complexity in Stairway. It is Guy Malet’s extraordinary sense of perspective which dominates this image. The artist’s innate perception of colour has allowed him to visualise where the effects of strong shadows will be created throughout his planned image by the superimposed colours from each cut. The result is to produce a visually challenging image in which pattern and shadows are juxtaposed to remarkable effect.

Very rare – although numbered from the only edition of 20 signed proofs, almost all impressions from this edition were destroyed by water.

On fine, firm Japan-style paper – trimmed to the image and mounted for exhibition by the artist himself. Numbered and titled in pencil by the artist within the image. Signed and titled, once again, on the original mount. Very fine original condition.

Provenance: The studio of Guy Malet.
