Original William Edward Frost etching.

Excellent impression on India paper, from the only published edition, as issued by the Etching Club in 1857.

The figure painter William Edward Frost, R.A. was one of the very few Victorian artists to have devoted the greater part of his career almost exclusively to depicting the female nude. Trained under William Etty, he won the gold medal at the Royal Academy schools in 1839; was further honoured in the Westminster Hall competition in 1843, and painted commissions of mythological subjects for both the Queen and Prince Albert. He reached the peak of his success around 1850 and was elected a Royal Academician in 1871. The Sea Nymph is the only etching which W.E.Frost made for the Etching Club and it is undoubtedly the best known of his etched works.

On pale cream chine appliqué on original warm white wove backing sheet, with full margins, as issued. Very fine original condition. Image surface excellent.
