Henry Ninham is one of the lesser known members of the Norwich School of artists. A copper-plate printer by trade, he developed an intricate style of etching which places him amongst the most skilful of the Norwich School printmakers. His finest etched works were produced entirely for his private interest and upon a miniature scale. None of his highly personal smaller plates was published during his lifetime and proofs from his plates are extremely rare. The first publication of Henry Ninham's personal smaller plates was issued posthumously as Fifteen Etchings by the late Henry Ninham in 1875. The introduction to the 1875 volume provides the following information: “the fifteen small etchings, the subjects of which are enumerated on the following page, were executed by him between the years 1830 and 1840, when a few impressions only were distributed amongst his immediate friends.” [more] |
