This outstanding etching of a peasant downing his drink outside the local inn shares the realistic plein-air naturalism of Charles Jacque’s finest rustic genre scenes. Drawn directly on the plate in October 1849, this image captures the feel of a crisp autumn day to perfection.

On off-white India paper applied to original warm white wove backing sheet with full margins. Very fine condition.
