Original Eleanor Hughes etching.
Excellent first state working proof impression, from the artist’s own personal collection. Signed with the artist’s stamped signature. In the subsequent sate of this plate further shading was added throughout the design and more etched work was added to the roofs.
The unusual viewpoint of this etching is indicative of Hughes’ individuality – in characteristic style, she has chosen a viewpoint showing only the roofs of the houses which remain incidental to the principal objects of her attention, namely the sculpturesque trees which dominate the Cornish landscape.
Trewoofe is a couple of miles south Newlyn and Penzance, in Cornwall.
On cream laid paper with full margins and deckle edge. Very fine original condition. |
