This etching, with its partially occluded view, highlights the artist’s fascination with the structure of trees – Eleanor Hughes loved to depict trees when bare of leaves, excepting the ivy which cloaked their trunks, for only then could the fascinating patterns created by their limbs be seen clearly. In characteristic fashion Eleanor Hughes has relegated the farm and the landscape beyond to a subsidiary role in this image.

On heavy cream laid Arches paper, with full margins and deckle edge. Very fine original condition.
