Original Robert Goff etching and drypoint.

Unique double-sided proof impression, printed by R.C. Goff himself. Both impressions are exceptionally rich and atmospheric, the drypoint burr of the freshly engraved plate printing with rich velvety effect. Experimental proofs of this nature are exceptionally rare. This particular pair of examples has been printed with considerable and carefully wiped plate tone.

Colonel Robert Goff retired from the Coldstream Guards in 1878 to devote himself to art, becoming a widely respected printmaker and painter specialising in topographical views of England and Europe. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers in 1887 and contributed regularly to their exhibitions. Cannon Steet Station is the most strikingly atmospheric of all of R.C. Goff’s London prints.

On coarse simile Japan paper with full margins. Residue from an old label in outer margin at extreme lower right corner of sheet, otherwise generally good original condition for a working proof of this nature.
