Original Norman Janes soft ground etching and aquatint.
Excellent signed proof impression, printed with carefully wiped plate tone to enhance the effect of the reflected rainwater lying on the ground.
Norman Janes’s early work had been much occupied with portraiture but by the later 1920’s landscape had become his predominant subject matter. The Palace Pier, Brighton is a particularly fine example of Norman Janes’s topographical work in etching and aquatint. The artist sometimes inscribed impressions of this work with the alternative title of Wet Day at Brighton.
On cream laid paper, with full margins. Mild foxing verso only (not visible from printed surface), otherwise very good original condition. |
