Very good impression from the only edition of 25 signed and numbered proofs.
Hilary Paynter spent much time making extensive studies in psychology – studies clearly reflected in this image. Far from portraying the archetypal image of a prisoner, seated in misery within his cell, this wood engraving aims instead to describe the mental anguish of its subject.
On warm white simile Japan paper with full margins. Very fine original condition. |
