Rare proof impression numbered ‘3’ from the projected edition of 50 signed proofs. It is thought unlikely that this edition was ever printed in full.

Guy Malet produced only a handful of etchings as an experiment in technique early in his career as a printmaker and all of these are now rare. These etchings were made not long after Malet had joined Iain Macnab’s Grosvenor School of Modern Art in 1927. Guy Malet’s interests soon moved, first to line engraving on metal and to linocuts, and then to wood engraving – the medium for which he is now best known. It is Guy Malet’s extraordinary sense of perspective which dominates this image – the unusual aerial viewpoint which Malet has chosen was later to become characteristic of his wood engraved works.

Very good impression on firm cream laid paper with full margins and deckle edge. Fold in unusually large left margin, minor surface dirt, otherwise very good original condition.

Provenance: The studio of Guy Malet.
