The portfolio containing 9 original etchings with aquatint and one original lithograph
cover page by Max Dasio, enclosed within pictorial lithographic boards. The set is signed and numbered “eins” in ink by the artist beside the edition declaration on the introductory wrapper leaf. Very rare.
The number “1” set, from the collection of the famous Berlin based collector and published, Ernst Seeger.
First issue of the copper plates, prior to steel facing, printed on China paper – only ten sets of this nature were ever issued.
Dasio’s second published portfolio of etchings and one of his two most important early publications.
In original portfolio with original lithographic cover by Max Dasio, introductory wrapper leaf with original title lithograph
and the list of plates, with original tissues guards.
As the title suggests, this series of allegorical etchings was inspired by music and the individual works depict various styles of musical movement, rather than illustrating specific pieces of music by given composers. The works themselves demonstrate Maximilian Dasio’s enduring fascination with the literature and imagery of ancient Greece.
This portfolio contains the following original works by Maximilian Dasio:-
Lithographic title page (signed, numbered “eins” and dated by the artist in ink, verso)
“Titel” – etched title page
“Allegro vivace. Frühling”
“Adagio molto espressivo”
“Adagio cantabile. Idylle”
“Allegro apassionato. Sappho”
All are excellent signed proof impressions printed variously in black, brown, and blue-green inks. All are printed on pale cream China paper applied to original warm white wove backing sheets with wide margins, as issued. All have some marginal foxing, but are in otherwise very fine original condition. The folio itself is in generally good original condition.
