Original James Hamilton Hay drypoint.
Superb impression of this scarce unpublished work, with rich drypoint burr. This plate was unknown to Campbell Dodgson, as were one or two other subjects which emerged from the collection of Maria Hay, the artist’s sister.
Provenance: The artist’s estate via his sister Maria Hay – the sole known impression.
None of James Hamilton Hay’s plates was ever published in a formal edition and all are now scarce.
On fine laid simile Japan paper, with full margins and deckle edge. Minor marginal foxing, otherwise very fine original condition. Image surface excellent. |
