Original James Hamilton Hay drypoint.
Brilliant impression of this scarce unpublished work, with rich drypoint burr.
James Hamilton Hay’s masterpiece. This extraordinary masterpiece of industrial architecture is far ahead of its time as a composition – it was some years before C.R.W. Nevinson weas to discover this style of view. James Hamilton Hay has produced a beautifully balanced and thoroughly modern composition which encompasses the awful drama of a working town in a way not found in any other print of the era. It will not be long before people look back to this print as being one of the great works of the British Etching Revival.
Provenance: The sole impression from the artist’s estate via his sister Maria Hay.
None of James Hamilton Hay’s plates was ever published in a formal edition and all are now scarce.
On fine simile Japan paper, with full margins and deckle edge. Generally very fine original condition. Image surface excellent. |
