In the foreground of this image is a shraff tip or shord-ruck – this was the name given to the areas used for depositing the smashed or spoiled products of the pottery ovens and kilns. In times long past there were groups of people who used to search among the debris for crockery that could be used.

On cream laid paper, with full margins and deckle edge. Mild time tone to sheet and one or two isolated foxing spots in margins. Faint diagonal rubbed crease in upper sky area, otherwise reasonable original condition.
