Original Graham Clilverd drypoint.

Excellent signed proof impression, aside from the only edition. This particularly fine presentation proof was given by Graham Clilverd to his close personal friend, Miss June Weston. The two remained close right up until Graham Clilverd's death in April 1978 at the age of 95.

Herstmonceux Castle stands near Hailsham in East Sussex. Construction of the castle was begun in 1441 for Sir Roger Fiennes, Treasurer of the Household of King Henry VI. It was one of the first major brick buildings to have been constructed in England and was years ahead of it's time in many features of its design, with concentration more on grandeur and comfort than on defence.

The castle remained within the original family until sold in 1708 by the last Lord Dacre, Earl of Sussex. After a chequered history and a variety of owners Herstmonceux Castle was acquired by Queen's University of Canada in 1993 and is now an International Study Centre.

On pale cream wove paper with full margins and deckle edge. Excellent original condition.
