Excellent impression from the only edition of 30 signed proofs. A beautiful example of this extremely uncommon etching, printed with carefully wiped plate tone. Very scarce.
Etched while John Bulloch Souter was still living in Scotland, this is one of a very few highly stylised nude study etchings produced by the artist in 1924. During this early period landscape predominates in Souter’s etched work; however, as the 1920’s progressed, J.B. Souter began to establish himself as a portrait painter and figure compositions begin to appear more frequently in his etched work.
On cream wove paper, with full margins. Very good original condition. |
