Excellent impression printed with plate tone using warm brownish-black ink. An outstanding signed proof of this very rare, apparently unpublished plate.
This fine early proof was retained by John Bulloch Souter as his own reference impression and is still attached to the guard sheet which would have been laid behind it when it was printed to prevent the fine simile Japan paper on which the etching is printed from splitting at the platemark during printing (the platemark is impressed heavily into the guard sheet). No published edition of this early figure study is recorded.
