Original David Charles Read etching.
Exceptionally strong impression with pronounced etched line.
This tranquil evening scene composed of dense cross-hatched etching was described by Read’s friend Goethe as resembling the work of Rembrandt in the “reflection even of an already far-departed light”.
On warm white laid paper, with narrow margins, tipped at sides to original backing sheet, as prepared by the artist himself. Small loss at lower left corner of sheet, just affecting image (the price of this impression has been adjusted to allow for this imperfection), otherwise very fine original condition. |
