Original Charles Jacque drypoint.
One of only 50 impressions printed from this plate. Superb atmospheric impression with the dark tonal lines of the sky giving the effect of dusk. A proof between Guiffrey’s first and second states of the plate, prior to the roulette work in the water towards the left of the image, but after roulette work had been added to the land at the left.
This beautifully handled drypoint by Charles Jacque demonstrates perfectly the plein-air naturalism of the artist’s first period of printmaking. Charles Jacque’s small early etchings from the 1840’s display a freshness and vitality seen at its finest in this superb work.
On fine laid paper with narrow margins beyond the platemark on all sides. Two short expertly repaired tears at sides, otherwise very fine condition. |
