The Fountain, Liverpool is one of Geoffrey Wedgwood's earliest printed works, created in 1924, the year before he was declared Winner of the Prix de Rome for engraving. It was only after Geoffrey Wedgwood had been elected an associate of the Royal Society of Etchers and Engravers in 1925 that the Fine Art Society published a small group of his earliest plates, including this refined study of the artist's home town of Liverpool.

Geoffrey Wedgwood produced a fine and distinctive body of topographical works in a combinations of etching, drypoint and line engraving. These beautifully precise views are chiefly architectural in content, although Wedgwood invariably introduces charmingly observed local figures, seen seated around the fountain in this work in a manner typical of his entertaining portrayal of human activity. An acute observer of every detail of his surroundings, Wedgwood has captured every aspect of the scene with his remarkably facile line.

On cream laid David Strang paper, with full margins and deckle edges. Mild tome tone, otherwise very fine original condition. Image surface excellent.
