Original Eileen Alice Soper etching.
Excellent impression from the only published edition of 92 signed proofs, as issued by H.C. Dickins.
One of the first two of Eileen Alice Soper's works to be exhibited at the Royal Academy in London. The selection of this work, etched when the artist was only 15 years old, over the works of established artist-etchers caused a sensation in the national press and drew the public to the show specifically to see the work of a child hailed as a prodigy.
La Barrière Cassée (The Broken Gate) is the most elaborate of Eileen Alice Soper’s early plates. It was the sheer vivacity of the young Eileen Soper’s etchings which gave them their instant appeal. The simple dexterity which she displays with the etched line in La Barrière Cassée is truly remarkable for a girl of only fifteen.
On cream laid paper with full margins and deckle edges. Excellent original condition. |
